Preparing to Use the Translation Manager

Before you can begin to translate documents in the repository, you must prepare the repository to use the Astoria Translation Manager feature.

This section describes actions you must take to create repository objects and configure repository options.

About Target Language Cabinets
The repository must have target language cabinets for each language in the appropriate area of the repository to support translations.
About Translation Package Destinations
An administrator can configure Astoria to create translation packages and store them in the repository that you manually export and transmit to your language service provider. Alternatively, the administrator can configure Astoria to automatically transmit translation packages directly to and from a translation management vendor product.
About the Translation Type Feature
You can define types of translations and specify related options that allow you to designate a translation job as using a specific quality translation method. Then you can force subsequent higher-quality translations to update unchanged target-language content, or prevent subsequent lower-quality translations from updating unchanged target-language content.
Configuring Translation Options
A system administrator must specify settings in the Astoria application document to support general translation activity.
Creating a Translation Manager Role
An administrator must create a Role to identify individuals responsible for managing translation jobs, to enable email notifications as objects move through the workflow.
Creating a Translation Manager User Group
An administrator can optionally create one or more user groups containing lists of users who will function as translation managers for translation workflows.
Defining Access Controls for the xdTranslationMonitor Event Queue
An administrator must define a Role and authorized users or groups on the xdTranslationMonitor event queue.
Creating an Audience Parameters Document for a Translation Workflow
An administrator must define one or more Audience Parameters documents to ensure that Audience Role members (translation managers) will get email notifications (on start translation, and when the translation is imported) or when an invalid locale or package is detected for the job.
Configuring the FTP-ZIP-SRC Translation Package Destination
A system administrator must specify settings in the Astoria application document to support using an FTP-ZIP-SRC server for the Translation Package destination.
Integration With Translation Vendors
Astoria can be configured to support several translation management vendor products to integrate translation job workflow.
