Executing a Global Substitution Batch Job

To execute a Global Substitution job, first identify the objects to be modified, specify the rules and job options.

To view job examples for specific goals, see Global Substitution Example Jobs.
  1. Select the candidate objects to be modified.
  2. Right-click the objects and select Search > Global Substitution.
The Global Substitution dialog appears. See The Global Substitution Dialog.
  3. Create one or more rules in the Substitute Parameters table.
  4. If necessary, change the order of a rule by clicking Up or Down.
  5. Select the Check In check box to automatically check in all objects locked by the job.
If the check box is cleared, the objects remain locked after the batch job completes, allowing you to validate locking units and check them in manually. See About Checking In Global Substitution Changes.
  6. Type a version note to associate with the change.
  7. If desired, select Scheduling options.
  8. Click OK.
A batch job is executed to perform the changes. When the job completes, you receive an email notification.
