Details View

The Details view lists the contents contained in the object you have selected.

The Details view can also contain lists that are generated by a command, such as search results, or a set of relationships (for example, List What Used, List Where Used). See Filtering Rows in Tabular Views.

Lists of items in the Details view are split into pages, allowing for faster loading. Use the navigation buttons in the view header , you can go to the first, previous, next, and last page of results, and view the current range of items, as well as the total number of objects. By default, the view displays 30 items. Users can adjust the number of objects displayed, including showing all items, using the Miscellaneous Settings dialog. See Setting Miscellaneous Preferences.

Contents in the Details page view are displayed in a table-like format with columns and rows. By default, the list is ordered by the first column in the view.

If a column contains a date, the date is displayed in user's local time zone and java format conventions for their geography.

Note: The date/time format changes from short to long, based on the column width, which can be changed either by dragging the borders or modifying the view presentation.

In the Details view, you can select one or more objects from the list and perform operations, such as editing, copying, moving, or composing.

With an active Details view, you can temporarily change the way the information is displayed, but these changes are not retained when the view is displayed again:

Sort the list by a different column by clicking on a column heading. Click the heading again to reverse the sort order.
Filter the list items in the view. See Filtering Rows in Tabular Views.
Resize the column widths by dragging the borders of the column heading.
Finding next/previous occurrence of a string.
Select or multiselect list items, and copy them to the clipboard (Ctrl+C) to paste into another application such as a spreadsheet for printing, sorting, graphing, and so on.

To make permanent changes in the way information is displayed in Details views, you must configure a presentation. You can add or delete columns, and control the order and default width of columns. For graphic folder types, you can customize the display to show thumbnails in a variety of sizes. See Modifying a View Presentation.
