Adding a snapshot label to a document and including the label on referenced files adds the snapshot to an external file placeholder as well.
External file placeholders can be versioned by changing the File Name of the file in the document's Properties sheet (not the object Name) .
Processing a document that references an external file placeholder using the snapshot label uses the version of the external file that existed as of the timestamp of the snapshot label.
