Limiting the Scope of a Search

Limit the scope of a Basic Search or Saved Search to return only relevant search results.

The goal of most repository searches is to return results relevant to a specific issue. Limiting the scope of a search reduces the number of irrelevant search results. Astoria offers several methods for limiting the search scope.

Method Description
Folder Level Run the search at the lowest folder level that will achieve the desired search results. The search will include objects in all lower-level folders.
List of Members
  1. Create a list of objects referenced by a map (Relationships > List What Used). The list appears in a Details view.
    Tip: Pin the view to ensure the list is not overwritten.
  2. Optionally, sort or filter the list to identify objects of interest.
  3. Select or multiselect the objects to be searched.
    Tip: Click Ctrl+A to select all list items.

    The status bar indicates the number of items selected.

  4. Run a Basic Search or Scoped Search.

The scope of the search is limited to the objects selected.

Search Results
  1. Run a search to create search results in a Details view.
  2. Select or multiselect objects in the view.
  3. Run another search.

The scope of the search is limited to the objects selected.
