Details for the Exclude Xref'd Documents Check Box

This topic provides additional information about the impact of selecting or clearing the Exclude xref'd documents check box in the Start Translation dialog.

If you select the Exclude xref'd documents check box, documents that are referenced by the source documents only by an xref element are excluded from the translation package. This enables you to avoid translation costs for documents that are not part of the domain of the map being sent for translation.
Note: If the Translate this file only check box is selected, the Exclude xref'd documents check box is selected automatically and cannot be cleared.

If this option is selected for an initial translation, documents referenced only by the xref element are not included in the translation package. However, an empty placeholder document will be created in the target language cabinet, and the referencing target document will link to it. The document referenced by the xref element will remain empty until that document is translated, either by a translation that directly references the document (that is, not referenced only by an xref element), or a translation with the Exclude xref'd document check box cleared. At that point the document will be updated, and all xref linkages maintained.

If the check box is cleared, documents referenced only by the xref element are included in the translation package and the xref linkage is valid.
