Change Page Pro works with a customized version of Arbortext editor that has Change Page for Defense (CPD) installed.
In order to guarantee that page breaks can be maintained between publishing operations using Arbortext CPD, it is important to edit SGML documents using only this customized version of the Arbortext editor. In addition, the Arbortext change tracking feature must remain on during editing. Using the editor in this configuration ensures that changes are recorded only at locations that are permitted by the DTD.
Authors can check out portions of SGML documents from Astoria and make editing changes, saving at convenient intervals. Inserted and deleted text will be marked to indicate where changes have been made. The added markup, called change markup, consisting of processing instructions surrounding insertions and deletions, remains in the document until removed using the Accept Changes command. The change markup adds distinctive coloration to changes, red strike-through for deleted text, and green for inserted text.
Keep the following in mind when editing using the CPD-specific Arbortext version:
- Change tracking is turned on by default. The change tracking setting can be found in . For documents that will be published using Change Page Pro, change tracking should remain on while editing.
- Before publishing a document, all pending changes that have been marked using change tracking must be finalized, either by accepting or rejecting the change, and the results checked in to Astoria. Change markup left in the document interferes with the publishing process. Change markup left in a checked-in document fragment can be removed in a subsequent checkout by accepting changes, and checking back in to Astoria.
- If authors make editing changes to a document fragment and check in to Astoria without resolving change tracking in Arbortext, it is important to pay close attention to how that fragment is edited subsequently. If tags have been deleted in the fragment, authors should not check out tags within the deleted portion. Such checkouts would present the tags to Arbortext without the surrounding deletion markup, allowing the content to be further edited. Since Arbortext would normally disallow editing within deleted content, errors are likely to occur when the document is later published using Change Page Pro.
