A composition profile is a repository object that contains sets of customer parameter definitions or named parameters.
A composition profile can be supplied to the DITA Open Toolkit or other third-party plugins to specify detailed composition options for an output type.
Note: Astoria recommends using composition profiles to manage custom or named parameters.
When specified in a Compose Output dialog for an output type, a composition profile builds a file that is provided to the DITA-OT, and then is discarded. The created file specifies parameters that would otherwise have to be typed into the Custom Parameters field in the Compose Output dialog.
When specified on an object for composition, a composition profile name is retained in the dialog and used on subsequent invocations until altered.
DITA-OT versions 2.0 or later
use transtype
plugin.xml
files that contain descriptions of each parameter, the parameter
type, and the valid and default values for the parameter, if any.
The dialogs for creating and editing a composition profile using a DITA-OT 2.0 or later version include a table for each transtype displaying this additional
information, allowing users to edit or clear parameter values, or
add new or custom parameters.
Systems that use DITA-OT versions 1.x will not display transtype custom parameter names and values. Users must enter the names and values manually.
Note: If you have a third-party toolkit installed and the designer included documentation in the plugin.xml, the parameters will appear in a table, even on a 1.x toolkit.
