The Astoria annotation feature allows users to attach information, such as notes, comments, and feedback, to objects in the repository.
When annotations are configured for the repository, this feature allows reviewers and authors to easily exchange information and feedback on content. Annotations are typically used in a document review process, and are available using the Astoria Reviewer interface. See About the Astoria Reviewer Interface.
A reviewer can view or manage annotations on objects using the Reviewer interface or the Workbench Browse view (where they are referred to as Comments). They can also be viewed or managed through the Annotations dialog accessed through the Workbench Show Annotations command. Structured document authors can also view or manage annotations from within an integrated XML editor.
Users can reply to an existing annotation, or to a reply on an annotation, creating a threaded conversation.
If a DITA map is in a review workflow, if it is viewed in the Reviewer interface, the reviewer can change the status of the map by clicking the Complete Review button ().
While used primarily in a review workflow, users may find other reasons to use the annotation feature. Administrators can create custom annotation definition types using a variety of custom attribute definitions to include different fields in the custom type.
When the issues addressed by the annotation have been dealt with, an authorized user can remove individual annotations or delete all annotations in a structured document and optionally from all referenced objects.
