About Editions

An edition persistently captures a read-only copy of a document, as it existed at a point in time.

The edition contains read-only copies of all the objects referenced by the selected document used to create the edition. Any referenced graphics are placed in a separate Graphics folder in the edition folder. The document copy can be created using one of the following methods:
Method Description Action to Create
Current state The entire document at the current point in time. Use the Create Edition command.
Historic state The entire document at a previous point in time. Use the Create Edition command and specify a Source Date.
Snapshot Label The entire document with the timestamp of portions of the document and graphics, as defined by a snapshot label. Use the Create Edition command and specify a Snapshot Label.
Historic state with Snapshot Label The entire document at a previous point in time, and with portions of the document and graphics as defined by a snapshot label Use the Create Edition command and specify a Source Date and a Snapshot Label.

Once you create an edition, you can reuse objects from the edition folder. However, objects that were created in an edition remain read-only and the edition folder content can never be modified. However, you can copy an object in an edition folder and paste it into a different folder and it can then be modified.
