About Compression Policy

Astoria supports compression of unstructured documents and allows fine grained policy control.

Astoria allows you to hierarchically determine whether files should be compressed to save space. You can set the compression policy at the cabinet or folder level, or on individual files. The Compression Policy options, which can be found on the appropriate property sheets, are as follows:
Property Description
Inherited If selected, indicates the compression policy is inherited from the parent container.
Compress File Versions If selected, indicates that the file should be compressed. If cleared, the file should not be compressed.

This check box is not enabled if Compression Policy is set to Inherited.

Astoria does not compress certain types of files because they are already in a compressed state. Here is a partial list of file types, by file extension, that are not compressed.
