You can drag and drop topic or map elements from the repository into a map.
This is the most efficient method for adding an existing topic or map to the map you are editing.
Drag an existing DITA topic or map from any Workbench view and drop it in the Document Structure area in the desired location in the map hierarchy.

Description |
Onto a map element |
The topic or map is added as a child of the element. If the element already has child elements, the topic or map is added as the last child of the element. |
Between existing map elements |
The topic or map is inserted into the hierarchy between the map elements. As you are dragging the element, a horizontal line indicates the location and hierarchy level where the topic will be inserted. |
- If you have dragged a topic, a topicref element is created with an href attribute that references the topic. A type attribute is set on the element (for example, type="concept").
- If you have dragged a map, a mapref element is created with an href attribute that references the map. A format="ditamap" attribute is set on the element.
