Comparing XML Documents

You can compare two XML documents, either in a an HTML view or in the raw XML format.

You can compare the current version of each document, or specify a timestamp for either document to compare previous versions.

Comparing XML documents would be useful, for example, to compare two versions of a document in separate releases.

  1. Right-click one of the the structured documents and select File > Compare.
    The Compare webform appears, with the name of the document you selected displayed in the First Document field.
  2. Leave the First Document Date field blank to use the current version of the document, or click the calendar icon () and specify a previous timestamp.
  3. For the Second Document field, click Browse and navigate to the document to compare with.
  4. Leave the Second Document Date field blank to use the current version of the document, or click the calendar icon () and specify a previous timestamp.
  5. To view the compare in raw XML format, select the Compare Raw XML check box.
    If the check box is cleared, the compare is shown in HTML format.
  6. Click OK.
The differences between the two documents are displayed in a Browse window.

When you have finished examining the compared documents, click to close the Browse window.
