You can use the context menu to add an empty topicref or mapref element, then reference a topic or map.
This is an alternate method for adding an existing topic or map to the map. However, it is much faster to use the drag and drop method.
- In the Document Structure area, right-click a map element adjacent to where you want to place the new element.
- Select one of these options for the location for the new element.
- Add Before
- Add After
- Add Child
- From the list of element types, select topicref or mapref.
An empty topicref is added to the map in the location you specify.
- Select the topicref or mapref element and in the Element Details area, click Add Attribute.
- From the attribute list, select href.
The Edit Attribute of Element dialog appears.
- Click Browse for Topic, then navigate to and select the topic or map to reference and click OK, then OK again.
- Select the topicref or mapref element and in the Element Details area, click Add Attribute.
- From the attribute list, select:
- type (for a referenced topic)
- format (for a referenced map)
The Edit Attribute of Element dialog appears.
- Type the attribute value:
- For a topic, type the topic type.
- For a map, type ditamap.
- Click OK.
