Recommended User Machine System Requirements

This section provides recommendations for client-side system configurations.

Windows OS

The minimum recommended Microsoft Windows OS platform requirements for end-user machines are:
Operating System Windows 11, Windows 10 64-bit
RAM
  • Minimum: 4GB
  • Maximum: None. Performance of Microsoft Windows and applications running on Windows will improve as the amount of RAM increases.
Browser
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (available in Windows 10 only)
  • Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based version only)
  • Mozilla Firefox
Screen Resolution
  • Minimum: 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Maximum: 3840 x 2160 pixels

Apple Mac OS

The minimum recommended Apple Mac OS X platform requirements for end-user machines are:
Operating System
  • Lion (10.7)
Note: Astoria supports Mac OS Big Sur (11) and Monterey (12).
RAM
  • Minimum: 2GB
  • Maximum: None. Performance of Apple Mac OS X and applications running on Mac OS X will improve as the amount of RAM increases.
Browser
  • Apple Safari (use the most recent update available from Apple)
Screen Resolution
  • Minimum: 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Maximum: 3840 x 2160 pixels
Important: Workbench users on MacBook Pros with touch bars must first open a terminal window and paste in the following command:

defaults write net.java.openjdk.cmd NSFunctionBarAPIEnabled -bool NO

This will disable the touchbar for all Java programs, such as the Workbench. The touchbar will still work for non-Java programs.

Network

The recommended network requirement is:
Network Bandwidth
  • Minimum: 100 megabits/second
  • Maximum: None. Performance of the Astoria Workbench and XML editing applications will improve as the network bandwidth between the client and the Astoria server increases.
