Most commands will not allow you to use deleted items.
When you select a deleted object, many commands are disabled (dimmed).
Some commands behave differently when deleted items are involved. For example, if you use the Compose with DITA-OT command on a map that references deleted topics, you will receive a notification about all of the deleted topics (and graphics) and the job will be terminated without generating output.
