About Custom Attributes

A custom attribute is system- or user-defined metadata that can be attached to objects in the repository.

The Astoria application includes numerous custom attribute definitions that support features included with the application. You can create additional custom attribute definitions to support the specific needs of your organization. Custom attribute definitions are stored as administrative list objects, in the Custom Attribute Definitions group, visible to administrators in the Navigation view.

A custom attribute definition specifies the type of repository objects it can be associated with, such as structured documents, files, elements, folders, cabinets, users. The definition also specifies the value type of the attribute, such as text, date, numeric, object, and can specify a default value for the attribute.

Custom attributes can be defined for Astoria to create webform fields.

Administrators can create or modify custom attribute definitions. Access controls are available to control how users manage custom attributes in the repository. Authorized users can add, remove, or change the value of a custom attribute on an object.

Custom attribute instances are shown the Custom Attributes tab of the Properties dialog for an object or element. If the custom attribute definition was created as searchable, you can perform a Basic Search to find instances of the attribute and its value.
